Using Parallels and Windows OS

When running Parallels do I also need to install a Windows OS on my Mac or does Parallels come with it so I can run a windows application?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

You will have to install windows inside parallels. So you need a valid windows license.

You need to supply a copy of Windows to install.
